Hisa's Flowers is as much an expression of Japanese culture as it is products and services.

Hisa's contributions to the community through the years have brought her recognition and awards but, more importantly, she has helped others to gain a greater understanding of her culture and the beauty found within it.
Hisa Kaizumi Leger

Hisa's Flowers opened on April 21st, 2000, but the story of its beginning started many years before in the life of Hisa Kaizumi of Nishinomiya, Japan.

Steeped in the traditional arts of her nation, Hisa studied Ikebana flower arranging, tea ceremony, calligraphy and dance through her childhood years with the encouragement of her mother Tsuneko. These interests were expected of young women to prepare them for social life and marriage.

After graduating Ashiya High School, Hisa traveled through Europe for one year and worked as an Au pair in Cambridge, England before returning home once again. A sense of restlessness and a desire to travel soon brought her to the United States where she met and married her husband Richard in 1974. A period of ten years was spent in Boulder, Colorado where three children were added to the family.

Upon returning to Rhode Island, Hisa worked in the floral department of Stop and Shop for ten years learning traditional American styles of arranging. During this period she also attended the University of Rhode Island earning a degree in Human Science with highest honors.

Opportunity came shortly afterwards to open her own store in Narragansett, Rhode Island with the help and encouragement of her family and friends. Hisa's desire and focus is to blend traditional and Asian flower arranging to reach true harmony in her presentations. We believe that you will enjoy the results of those efforts.
